Why Should Your Teenager Read This Book?
As a parent you want to raise confident, independent, wise, safe, and healthy young adults. I have the same goal for my own children and for all of the students I teach. I like to emphasize with my students the importance of healthy self-esteem. I show them that where they sit on the self-esteem spectrum will influence every decision they make. It will influence their relationships with family, friends, partners, how hard they try at school, how they handle decisions with drugs and alcohol, how they feel about their body, how they deal with stress and so much more. It all starts with how they feel on the inside.
I have always made this message my top priority, just as you have too. As adults, our support for our youth is one of the biggest factors in their development of healthy self-esteem. Never doubt your positive influence in their lives, even when they start to pull away, hold on with quality family time, and continue to be a guiding force for them. Know that teachers and other caring adults are on your side too, sharing the same messages of supporting your teen to have faith in their inner strength.
As the saying goes, It takes a village to raise a child. While many teens have come to me for guidance, I know my own teenagers seek additional guidance from their teachers and coaches, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. They want to check in on the opinions of others and I love that! As they investigate the world, it’s important that we embrace many healthy LifeGuides to surround them.
Hopefully you have encountered some wonderful adults in your teen's life. Maybe it's a relative, a coach, teacher, employer, club leader, or family friend. These individuals work with you to care for and guide your teen to become the best that they can be. It's a good thing we are all on the same team and we all have your teenager's best interest at heart.
