Why Should Your Teenager Read This Book?
As a parent you want to raise confident, independent, wise, safe and healthy young adults. I have the same goal for all of the students I teach. I teach my students about the importance of healthy self-esteem. I show them that where they sit on the self-esteem spectrum will influence every decision they make. It will influence their relationships with family, friends, partners, how hard they try at school, how they handle decisions with drugs and alcohol, how they feel about their body, how they deal with stress and so much more. It all starts with how they feel on the inside.
I have always made this message my top priority, just as you have too. But I have one advantage over you that enables them to listen to our common message. I am not their parent. To quote a student " Ms, my mom tells me the same thing. I don't know why but I don't listen when she says it but when you say it I listen."
Don't feel bad, while many, many teens have come to me for guidance, I know when my own children become teenagers, they are not going to listen to me! There is something about that teen-parent interaction that gets in the way.
Hopefully you have encountered some wonderful adults in your teen's life. Maybe it's a coach, or teacher, employer, club leader, relative, or family friend. These individuals work with you to care for and guide your teen to become the best that they can be. As a teacher of over 15 years I have played that role for many families. It's a good thing we are all on the same team and we have your teenager's best interest at heart.
How To Be Your Own HERO: A Teenager's Toolkit For Building Self-Esteem is a book of guidance and strategies to improve confidence, independence, wisdom and compassion in your young adult.
I have written this book not only for your teenager but to help support you in your parenting strategies.
